Website Design Tips For Site Appearance
Getting traffic to your website is important, but equally important is keeping visitors on your website once they have found it. The appearance of your website is critical to retaining visitors.
When a visitor lands on your website for the first time, they make the decision to stay or leave the site in about three seconds. It's the appearance of your website that drives that decision. A website that has a poor or confused visual appearance is much less likely to retain visitors than a site that has been carefully designed to use the appearance as a way to convince users that your site is the site they have been looking for.
If you are currently working on the design of a site or if you have a website that you believe isn't keeping the attention of users like it should, consider the following web design tips for website appearance:
It all starts from the user's first request. Whether the user finds your website through a search engine or if they visit the website directly, the user starts judging and analyzing your site from the second they are directed to your website. That's why it is so important that your website load quickly into the user's browser. If your website takes more than 20 to 30 seconds to load it's a good bet that the user will not wait that long, and they will cancel the action to begin looking for another website. Shortening the load time may require a few changes like eliminating some of the content and images from your homepage. Whatever the method shortening the load time of your website is the first step to retaining visitors.
Users aren't colorblind which is why color choice is so important. Colors need to be carefully selected to not only represent your company or organization but to also make the website as readable as possible. Yellow text on a black background may look cool, but it is very hard to read. Use color to enhance your message, not to hide it.
Design standards change, rapidly. Because website design is evolving constantly, the appearance of new websites are always changing and modernizing which can make a website that was created just a few years ago look very outdated. You need to keep the look of your website current. As new technologies are developed, you need to integrate those technologies, if for no other reason but to keep your website looking relevant.
Website appearance is important. It is part of an overall web success strategy that combines design, development, and search engine optimized content. If you aren't sure about the appearance of your website just ask yourself if you are impressed by the appearance of the site, if you answer no, it's a good bet no one else will be impressed with the appearance of your website either.
